Notes from the Importer: Thierry Forestier’s Anathème Rouge is about as honest and stripped-back as southern French red gets. Made from old-vine Carignan, Cinsault, and Aramon (many of these vines are pushing 80+ years), it’s grown organically on a little patch of land in Souvignargues, where Thierry has been quietly doing his thing since the early 2000s. No chemicals, no shortcuts - just thoughtful, minimal-intervention winemaking that puts the vineyard first.
The 2023 is all whole-cluster fermented in concrete, which keeps the wine lively and fresh, dialling in a bright, crunchy profile that’s light on its feet—pretty rare for a Languedoc red. It’s got a bit of spice and earth in the mix, but mostly it’s just clean, juicy fruit and a tonne of drinkability. Exactly the kind of wine that’s as happy slightly chilled on a warm day as it is alongside hearty, rustic food.
A proper “what you see is what you get” wine - pure, simple, and all the better for it.
